Pledge Membership
Pledge Program Purpose
The purpose of Alpha Phi Omega's pledge program is to make it possible for pledges to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to function as effective active members of this national service fraternity. Therefore, the ultimate aim of every pledging period is to teach the worth of human dignity, promote academic scholarship, instill a commitment to continuing service, provide opportunities to participate in leadership development experiences, and cultivate friendship among the pledges and with the brothers.
Pledge Requirements
The following requirements must be met by pledges during the pledge period in order to gain active membership in APO. Most of the requirements below have “alternative” requirements that allow a pledge that struggles to meet a requirement to fulfill it in a different way.

The pledge program is ~10 weeks long and will not last past the end of the semester. All pledging activities will have an articulate and reasonable positive benefit, be consistent with the principles and spirit of Alpha Phi Omega, and involve no risk of humiliation or injury to any person. Pledges will become thoroughly familiar with the principles, ideals and heritage of Alpha Phi Omega. Pledges will be assigned a big brother to assist them throughout the pledging process. No pledge may be denied active membership if they meet all of the pledge requirements. Any pledge denied activation has the right to appeal this decision to the chapter.
