Registration is now closed for the 2020 Section C-1 Leadership Day. Please contact the Section C-1 Chair, Cassie Harmon, with any questions.
Thank you to everyone who registered for Leadership Day this Saturday, February 8 on the campus of Colorado School of Mines! We will begin check-in and breakfast at 9:00am in Brown Building West 280. Please arrive no later than 9:30am so we can get you checked-in prior to opening session at 9:45am.
Currently the weather forecast for Saturday is a rare sunny break from the week of snow expected ahead. Please plan for the possibility that even if Saturday is nice, the roads may not be clear since Golden is forecast to receive snow on Friday. We are keeping a close eye on the weather and will let you know if it looks like it may have any impact on this event. There will be a variety of Mu Pi shirts for sale during registration, along with generic APO notebooks and travel mugs. Everything is priced $5-$15. Only cash can be accepted as payment, so please plan accordingly if you are interested in purchasing something.
Apart from what we recommend for the hike and cash if you’d like to buy merchandise, please bring something to take notes with, and of course, your positive APO attitude! If you plan on attending the APO on Your Resume workshop feel free to bring along your resume too.
Please note that Mu Pi risk management policy applies to this event and prohibits the consumption or possession of alcohol or marijuana, and members and guests cannot be under the influence of alcohol, marijuana, or any illicit drug.

The workshops that will be offered at this event are:
Project Management
From ideation to fruition we'll be taking an idea and creating a kick butt solution. We'll explore popular project management styles including: Agile Sprints, traditional Project Management, RACI charts. This workshop will help you plan out the start, middle, and follow up for every project no matter the project size. Please come with an open mind, project disasters, project success, and a positive attitude!
Escalation Workshop
The Escalation Workshop brings education and awareness about relationship violence. The workshop consists of an award winning short film based on true events, followed by a guided discussion to help attendees recognize the signs of relationship violence and how to approach the situation as a friend.
Willingness and Readiness: Adapting Your Leadership Style to Your Team
There are times and situations that require a leader to adapt and change their leadership style to meet the needs of the group they serve. How do you know what leadership style works best for your team? How can you tell what changes need to occur to best meet the demands of the people who follow you? How often will I need to change my style to be a productive leader? By utilizing the Situational Leadership Model we will unpack these questions and more in this workshop.
APO LEADS: Achieve
This course centers on the advantages of generating a team-like atmosphere by teaching participants a set of skills that set them up to be able to lead their chapters to universal success. APO LEADS: Launch is a prerequisite for this course.
Motivating Everyone
It can be difficult to motivate members to effectively participate in your chapter while trying to balance APO with your personal and school/work life. We will discuss how to engage every member, improve chapter morale, and the best ways to positively move your chapter forward. This workshop will rely on audience participation, so be prepared to engage! Participants are encouraged to discuss past or current chapter challenges, but please keep all discussions respectful and avoid naming specific members.
Public Speaking: Tip and Tricks
One of the universal dislikes is public speaking. In this workshop we will discuss methods to improve your view on presenting and crutches to be aware of when needing to talk to groups, be it 3 or 100 people. Please come prepared to discuss your apprehensions, and the good and the bad you have experienced at a presentation.
G-Suite 102
This is a followup to the G Suite workshop from the Section C-1 Conference. All chapters are asked to send at least one member to this workshop as we will be reviewing what all chapters need to do with their G Suite account (pending actions of section at the business meeting) and how to do it. Please try to have this be a member that attended, or has reviewed the slides from, the previous G Suite workshop. The majority of time will be roundtable style hands-on learning focused on how to do the things in G Suite that participants want to learn.
APO on Your Resume
You’ve spent one or more semesters as a member of APO. You may have been a chapter officer. Now you’re nearing graduation and looking for employment, or looking for a summer job or internship. How do you best describe your APO experience so that you can shine as a prospective employee? This will be an interactive session where we’ll be doing some creative writing. Feel free to bring your current resume.
