Silence Isn't Golden: Suicide Prevention & Remembrance Walk
Sign Up to Volunteer
This is a community-wide walk that will start in Parfet Park in downtown Golden and end on the Colorado School of Mines campus on Kafadar Commons in front of the CoorsTek building (where the mental health wellness fair will be held). The purpose of this walk is to raise awareness about the impact suicide has on the Golden community, promote suicide prevention efforts and conversations, and remember those lost to suicide. Participants will be provided with colored beads to wear that symbolize their connection to this cause. This is a free event open to everyone.
Check-in will start at 9am in Parfet Park and participants can register the day of the event, however we request that participants please pre-register for the walk to help make check-in run smoother and to ensure there are enough beads for all participants. You can register individually or on behalf of a group. If you are registering on behalf of a group, you will be asked to provide the number of walkers in the group and how many beads of various colors the group would like.
Participants are encouraged to bring signs/posters to remember those lost to suicide and/or with messages of survival and hope. There will also be supplies provided during check-in for participants to make signs if desired. There will be a limited number of "Silence Isn't Golden" t-shirts available for purchase during check-in. Shirts are $10 (tax included) and can be purchased with cash or check. Checks should be made payable to Colorado School of Mines with Alpha Phi Omega - Mu Pi Chapter indicated in the memo field.
Parking is free on the Colorado School of Mines campus on weekends. The closest campus parking to the walk end point are the O Lot off of 15th Street and the CT and I Lots off of 18th Street. More information on Colorado School of Mines parking, including a parking map, is available here. If you wish to park near the walk start point it is recommended you park in one of the parking garages off of Jackson Street between 11th and 13th Street.
